Moving, Fish and CBD Oil
Chemo is famous for giving people either diarrhea or constipation. Since I have been plagued with the latter for most of my life it’s no surprise that my situation has been close to dire. Nothing I seemed to do seemed to be helping. But finally, perhaps a combination of a variety of remedies ranging from senna to magnesium to flax meal seemed to do the trick. So yay me. I feel so much better!
Or maybe it was the variety of fish last night. Spike Gjerde, of Woodberry Kitchen and Artifact Coffee, periodically hosts an evening of discussion and food and drink. Last night it was about fish farming. It was fascinating, but left me with so many questions, some of which were partially answered, but I still am not sure.
The panelists ranged from producers to scientists who had interesting and important things to say. The wild fish in our oceans are being depleted, and if we are going to continue to have fish as a source of protein and Omega 3s, we need to look to farmed fish. There are various organizations that inspect and certify farmed fish, and places like Whole Foods and Wegmans carry the “good stuff.” But I still have questions. I didn’t get to ask any questions during the discussion because it was dominated by a couple of audience members, but I did get to speak to two of the presenters afterwards, and frankly, I had them stumped. Farmed fish need to eat wild fish for their Omega 3s, but along with that, they are fed “plant sources,”two of which might be corn and soy. That raised red flags for me. First, corn is so overproduced and fed to animals who have no business eating it, which is my guess regarding fish, and soy always raises red flags for me because of the phytoestrogens. Studies have not been done regarding soy fed to fish, so I gave the presenters some food for thought. Meantime, I will still be cautious about farmed fish.
When we got home it was pretty late (for us) but I was still pretty jazzed from the evening, so I turned to my new, higher dose of CBD oil. I had a great discussion at MOM’s the other day with an employee, and decided to up my milligrams of CBD. Not sure that it is helping my neuropathy, which I had hoped for, but my sleep! Sleeping soundly, and according to my FitBit, I have doubled my REM and deep sleep.
My friend David, who was my beat friend in Helena, is coming to visit starting this evening. We haven’t seen each other in years, but this cancer thing really does bring people out of the woodwork. I think he will be pleasantly surprised as to how good I look, feel and act! Perfect timing because this was a non-chemo week. Next week back to a heavy duty dose, but I am so close to finishing I can taste it! Eyes always on the prize!
